The experts at this amazing site have created "online safety profiles" for over 68,000 personal care products. You can search the cosmetics you already own to see how they stack up against the 0-10 rating system, or search for a particular category and choose a nontoxic option (0 is the safest).
It is jaw-dropping to find out that products you use every day, that have been marketed to you as effective and gentle, may in fact be carcinogenic or toxic to reproduction.
For me, this tool resulted in a motivation to make my own products in my own kitchen, so I could control what went into them and verify their safety. But when my homemade products aren't cutting it, I turn to the Cosmetics Database to find options that are both luxurious and safe.
